Men’s Health Month is About More Than Strong Muscles
Jun 12, 2026
June is Men’s Health Month, a national observance focused on encouraging men to prioritize their health.
Men face higher rates than women of heart disease, stroke, and other serious medical conditions. Fortunately, with a few lifestyle interventions like healthy eating and plenty of exercise, men have the power to prevent many of these health setbacks.
Why exercise?
Besides feeling strong and more confident, participating in consistent exercise offers many health benefits. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people clock at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity per week for maximum impact on heart health. Regular activity also lowers risk for type 2 diabetes, helps with weight control, and strengthens bones.
Exercise also brings significant benefits to mental health. Moving your body reduces the risks of anxiety and depression and improves clarity and focus.
But what about aching joints?
As we age, and perhaps carry some excess weight, old injuries, wear-and-tear arthritis, weakened muscles, and other musculoskeletal issues can prevent active men from participating in the activities they enjoy. That’s why orthopedic teams play an integral role in helping patients get the exercise they need to improve their overall health.
Full-service support
Orthopedic surgeons work with each patient to help them overcome pain and mobility challenges. From conservative treatments like physical therapy or medication, to injections or surgery, there are many options that can help men keep moving and reach their unique goals.
