Divine Appointments: A Full-Circle Moment in the Birth Center
Jul 17, 2026
The daily work of healthcare is as much about human connection as it is about treatments or procedures. Every day, caregivers are invited into some of life's most significant moments, building relationships that can leave a lasting impact in unexpected ways.
For Melissa Olson, RN, who has worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse at Adventist Health Sonora for 19 years, a connection that began on the day she was born resurfaced this summer in the very place she now cares for families.
Kris Yogam, MD, recently joined Adventist Health Sonora as a temporary physician in the Birth Center. On one of Dr. Yogam's first shifts, Melissa asked where she was from. As they talked, they realized that Dr. Yogam was the physician who had delivered Melissa 43 years earlier at a Bay Area hospital.
What seemed like an extraordinary coincidence became even more remarkable just hours later. Melissa and Dr. Yogam stood side by side in the Birth Center and helped welcome a new baby into the world together. Forty-three years, four days, and four minutes after Melissa’s own birth.
Neither Melissa nor Dr. Yogam had searched for each other. Yet their paths crossed again in a delivery room more than four decades after they first met.
For Melissa, the experience was a powerful reminder that some moments feel deeper than coincidence. "When I look at the way every detail came together, it's hard not to see God's hand in the timing," she said. "I call moments like this divine appointments—unexpected intersections that remind us that some paths are meant to cross again and that God is in the details."
