Go With Your Gut! Lunch & Learn Highlights Essential Tips on A Healthy Gut with Tina Storage, MD, Gastroenterologist

We were pleased to welcome Tina Storage, MD, Gastroenterologist, as the featured speaker for our June 24 Lunch & Learn. Her presentation, Insights on Digestive Health, Prevention, and Advances in Gastrointestinal Care, provided attendees with valuable information on digestive wellness and the latest advances in GI care. In a sold-out event with over 80 guests at the Annandale Golf Club, Dr. Storage shared the latest innovations in functional GI and how to maintain a healthy gut. Dr. Storage graduated from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at Stanford University, and then returned to UCLA for a fellowship in gastroenterology. She joined Adventist Health Glendale in the beginning of 2025 and with her practical approach to gastroenterology, established a center for inflammatory bowel disease and functional bowel disorders.

"People tend to think that if you have a complex diagnosis or a diagnosis that others can't figure out, or that you've sought multiple medical opinions for, then it's time to seek an academic medical center. But I think that Adventist Health Glendale is that tertiary care center. It's in the community and it's highly accessible, so it makes it so much easier for patients," suggests Dr. Storage.

Her approach as a functional gastroenterologist is practical and holistic. She routinely performs upper endoscopy, colonoscopy (recommended at age 45+ or earlier with family history), sigmoidoscopy, enteroscopy, and capsule endoscopy, as well as examining the whole person while considering modifiable factors like diet, exercise, stress control, and factoring in the gut-brain connection. She also offers the latest treatments for a variety of gastrointestinal diseases — options approved as recently as March 2025. In addition to her institutional experience, she completed certification as a gluten-free practitioner and earned functional gastroenterology certification through the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM).

Dr. Storage explained that functional medicine focuses on treating the whole person by identifying and addressing the root cause of illness rather than simply managing symptoms. She emphasized understanding when and how a condition began, with particular attention to the body's microbiome, the trillions of organisms that live in the gut and play a vital role in overall health. When the microbiome becomes imbalanced, gastrointestinal disorders can develop. While medications can be an important part of treatment, Dr. Storage noted that restoring gut health through a balanced diet, regular exercise, stress management, and eliminating contributing factors can be an effective approach to healing.

“A lot of patients with chronic symptoms of bloating, abdominal discomfort, and constipation weren't getting better. I was trying to figure out why when we were giving the medications taught to us in training, and I realized we were missing a key piece in treating patients,” says Dr. Storage, “and that's really starting from the bare bones and looking at healing things from the root cause.”

Dr. Storage shares incredible, practical, and accessible advice on Instagram @drtinastorage, including gut-healthy summer BBQ alternatives, how new colon cancer screening options save lives, and ways your colon loves consistency! It’s clear that Dr. Storage understands how essential it is to make GI health simple and positive.
