From Patient to Future Physician: Kaitlyn's Journey
"I always felt a sense of home because I was born at Adventist Health White Memorial."
— Kaitlyn Robles
For Kaitlyn Robles, Adventist Health White Memorial has never been just a hospital. It is where her story began.
Raised in a hardworking Salvadoran and Mexican family, Kaitlyn grew up watching her parents and grandparents make sacrifices so she and her sisters could dream bigger.
"I hold my family's name with pride," she says. "I want to become the best person I can be because of everything they have done for me."
Opening the door to opportunity
When she enrolled at Francisco Bravo Medical Magnet High School, Kaitlyn knew she wanted a career in medicine. Looking for a meaningful experience, she returned to the place where life first welcomed her. She joined Adventist Health White Memorial's Healthcare Workforce Development Program, and her life changed.
Although she was initially too young for the program, the team saw her determination and gave her a chance.
"That brought me a lot of hope," Kaitlyn says. "The fact that Adventist Health White Memorial took that chance on me meant everything."
Building skills, confidence, and purpose
Over the next two and a half years, Kaitlyn served throughout the hospital and Community Well-Being Center, connecting with patients, supporting families, learning from physicians, and eventually becoming a lead intern who mentored other students. Every experience strengthened her compassion and confirmed that medicine was where she belonged.
Committed to serving others
Today, Kaitlyn is preparing to attend the University of California, Davis, where she will study biological sciences with plans to become a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. Yet her vision reaches far beyond earning a medical degree.
"My hope is to come back to Adventist Health White Memorial and serve the community," she says. "I want to help communities that are underserved because I've seen the challenges they face."
Investing in the next generation of caregivers
Her journey is proof that investing in young people creates a lasting impact. One opportunity can shape a future physician. One mentor can inspire a lifetime of service. One gift can strengthen the health of an entire community.
Through the Adventist Health White Memorial Charitable Foundation, generous donors make programs like the Healthcare Workforce Development Program possible, opening doors for students who will become the healthcare leaders of tomorrow.
