Welcoming Dr. Paul McWhirter to Adventist Health Mendocino Coast

We are thrilled to announce the addition of Paul McWhirter, MD, FACC, an interventional cardiologist, to our team. Dr. McWhirter will be seeing patients at our Medical Office located in Suite A, where he will provide comprehensive care for individuals facing various heart-related conditions.

With over 35 years of experience in the field, Dr. McWhirter brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our community. His specialization in interventional cardiology includes cardiac procedures and the implantation of cardiac devices designed to monitor and regulate irregular heartbeats. He is adept at treating a broad spectrum of conditions, such as coronary artery disease, heart failure, abnormal cardiac rhythms, and valvular diseases, ensuring that patients across all adult age groups receive the care they need.

Dr. McWhirter's educational background is impressive. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Biology cum laude from the University of California Santa Cruz and went on to receive his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine. His training included an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Wilford Hall Air Force Medical Center, where he also completed a fellowship in Cardiology. Throughout his career, he has taken on numerous leadership roles and has been involved in significant research initiatives.

As a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Dr. McWhirter has devoted his career to both patient care and medical education. His previous experience includes serving as a staff cardiologist at John Muir Health, where he played a critical role in developing various cardiac programs, including noninvasive cardiology and cardiac rehabilitation.

“I am excited to join Adventist Health Mendocino Coast and contribute to the health and well-being of our community,” Dr. McWhirter shared. “My goal is to help patients and their families navigate the emotional challenges of heart disease, and I look forward to building meaningful relationships with each individual I treat.”

Outside of his professional life, Dr. McWhirter enjoys flying, swimming, and working on various projects. He resides with his wife and their two adult children, sharing a life rich in both family and personal interests.

Dr. McWhirter's commitment to excellence in patient care, coupled with his extensive experience and compassionate approach, makes him a remarkable addition to the Adventist Health family.
