Meet Dr. Yi Zheng: Bringing Specialized Gastroenterology Care to the Mendocino Coast

We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Yi Zheng, a board-certified gastroenterologist and hepatologist, to the Adventist Health Mendocino Coast Medical Offices. With nearly 30 years of experience in digestive health and a passion for preventive care, Dr. Zheng is now accepting patients on the Mendocino Coast.

A wealth of experience and a heart for service

Dr. Zheng joins us with a rich background in both large health systems like Kaiser Permanente and in personalized solo practice, where she served patients across the Bay Area. Originally from Wuhan, China, Dr. Zheng is fluent in both English and Mandarin, bringing accessible, compassionate care to a wide range of patients.

When asked what inspired her to pursue medicine, her answer is simple: “The desire to serve others.” That spirit of service is at the heart of everything she does.

Comprehensive digestive care, close to home

Dr. Zheng’s areas of expertise include:

  • Colonoscopy and colorectal cancer (CRC) screening
  • Upper GI endoscopy (EGD)
  • GERD (acid reflux) diagnosis and treatment
  • Fatty liver disease and liver health assessments
  • Management of common GI symptoms like ulcers, constipation, diarrhea, and gallbladder pain

She also brings advanced liver diagnostics to our community. Dr. Zheng was one of the first gastroenterologists in private practice to use Transient Elastography (FibroScan), a non-invasive, imaging-based tool to detect liver scarring and stiffness, often before symptoms appear.

She collaborates closely with primary care providers and endocrinologists to care for patients at risk for MAFLD (Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Fatty Liver Disease) and MASH (Metabolic Syndrome-Associated Steatohepatitis), both chronic conditions that are increasingly common and treatable when caught early.

A preventive approach and a personal touch

Dr. Zheng sees adult patients (ages 18–65) and is especially passionate about prevention and patient education. She believes that open dialogue, early screening, and healthy lifestyle choices are keys to maintaining digestive health.

Outside of the exam room, Dr. Zheng enjoys hiking, gardening, traveling, and cooking with her family. She is the proud mother of two boys and brings the same warmth and care to her patients as she does at home.
