Celebrating Libby Cardenas: 35 Years of Caring
Aug 27, 2026
After three and a half decades with Adventist Health Clear Lake, Libby Cardenas has collected more than just memories—she has collected stories, friendships and countless moments of caring for the people around her.
Known affectionately as the “office mom,” Libby has a gift for making people feel seen, valued and cared for. Whether she’s helping a patient, supporting a coworker or simply checking in on someone who needs a little encouragement, caring for others has always come naturally to her.
Leading with kindness
Libby’s Adventist Health journey began in 1991 in the Radiology department. From the beginning, she became known for her strong work ethic and cheerful personality. Spend a few minutes with her today and you’re likely to hear stories from those early years—about the physicians she worked alongside, the changes she has witnessed in health care and the memorable moments that have become part of the hospital’s history.
Over the years, Libby has worn many hats and has never been afraid to step in wherever she was needed. Her commitment to her coworkers extends well beyond her job description. As secretary for the employee association, she has spent countless hours of her own time supporting her teammates, especially during difficult moments.
A career built on service
Whether organizing support for a coworker experiencing a family loss or finding a thoughtful way to brighten someone’s day, Libby has always found a way to show up for the people around her.
In 2013, Libby joined the Rehabilitation Department as an office associate and aide, balancing front-office responsibilities while also helping maintain the clinic. She later became the clinic coordinator at the South Lake Clinic, where she continues to be one of the first friendly faces patients see when they arrive and the welcoming voice they remember when they leave.
Supporting coworkers and patients alike
But Libby’s impact can’t be measured by job titles or years of service. It can be found in the relationships she has built over the years—in the coworkers she has encouraged, the patients she has comforted and the countless small acts of kindness she has offered along the way.
One leader described Libby as someone who “always has different ideas and different ways to make things better.”
Making a difference every day
It’s a simple description, but one that captures so much of who Libby is. For 35 years, she has looked for ways to make things better—not just for the work itself, but for the people doing it and the patients they serve.
After 35 years, Libby’s legacy is woven into the fabric of our hospital and community. It’s in the stories she tells, the people she has helped and the many lives she has touched simply by being there.
