Nuclear medicine is a medical specialty that uses small amounts of radioactive substances called tracers to diagnose, evaluate, and treat various diseases. Unlike traditional imaging techniques that show only the structure of organs and tissues, nuclear medicine provides unique information about their function and metabolism. Nuclear medicine studies help physicians assess organ function, detect abnormalities, monitor disease progression, and guide treatment decisions.
