Priority Initiatives
Focus your passion
It is such an exciting time to focus your passion for improving our community’s health and your philanthropic priorities. In addition to the work that our local hospitals do every day, philanthropy can enhance and in some cases sustain the Adventist Health programs that focus on our mission: Living God’s love by inspiring health, wholeness, and hope.
Empowering impact

Area of Greatest Need Fund
The biggest and most exciting opportunities do not always happen according to schedule. Gifts to our Area of Greatest Need fund provide Adventist Health Castle leaders with the flexibility to allocate resources where and when they are needed most. Gifts to this fund have helped purchase state-of-the-art equipment and technology, improved our physical campus and supported community projects.
When you give to Adventist Health Castle Area of Greatest Need fund, your unrestricted gift is instrumental in helping us provide the high-quality care that our patients have come to expect while allowing us to react quickly to the changing needs of healthcare.
Increasing access to whole-person care

Expanding Primary Care
The most important front-line health care service that promotes prevention, well-being and care for the whole person is excellent, accessible primary care. Adventist Health Castle is focused on expanding access to primary care for the windward side, O‘ahu-wide and the state. The recent Hawaii Physician Workforce Crisis Task Force reported to the legislature that the greatest area of physician shortage is primary care, with 163 new primary care physicians needed statewide.
Our aim is to create a modern, efficient, and much needed workplace to support recruitment and growth. Philanthropic investment in this project will help increase access to integrated primary care and behavioral health services, address a critical shortage of primary care providers and allow Adventist Health Castle to provide enhanced care coordination for underserved individuals.
Elevating economic sustainability and healthcare

Workforce Development
At Adventist Health Castle, we know that the health of our community is best served by patient-provider partnerships working together for the best possible health for everyone. For this to work, trust must be present, and this trust is best accomplished by a culturally competent workforce made up of individuals who honor and celebrate the unique heritage of Hawaii. Our successful workforce development program supports our local community by providing entry level jobs to economically and socially disadvantaged people who want to build a career in health care.
Part of this program includes expansion of community partnerships with non-profit and government agencies who support training and job readiness for our vulnerable populations. Once hired at Castle, all associates are welcomed as part of the `ohana, especially beneficial for people beginning their first job in healthcare. We further support our teams with training, tuition assistance for higher education, job coaching and job shadowing. Investment in workforce development will help to fuel growth for all associates at Adventist Health Castle. Philanthropic investment in this project will elevate the economic sustainability of our community, offering a comprehensive approach to developing a workforce with professional excellence that is reflective of our beautiful legacy.
Urgently improving cancer care

Oncology
Patients on the Windward Side of O‘ahu have 12% of all cancer in Hawaii, yet there are too few oncologists at Adventist Health Castle to serve our community of over 140,000 people. While some patients have the wherewithal to travel or access care outside our community, we provide the care our neighbors need and deserve right here on the Windward Side.
Adventist Health Castle must recruit additional oncologists, expand and upgrade patient care space, and purchase state-of-the-art equipment to support new physicians and their patients. Founded 60 years ago in recognition of a need for health care service on this side of the island, Adventist Health Castle remains committed to providing the highest quality and access to cancer screening, diagnostic services, imaging, infusion treatments and medical oncology. The urgently needed project to transform the clinical space to accommodate new providers and acquire upgraded imaging and diagnostic equipment is projected to cost $2.8 million.
