Maternal-Fetal Medicine

OHSU Maternal-Fetal Medicine Delivered at Adventist Health Portland

Through our innovative partnership with OHSU, maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) physicians from OHSU offer consultations and reading advanced ultrasounds for patients with high-risk pregnancies in Portland’s eastside communities on the Adventist Health Portland campus.

OHSU MFM specialists are on our campus weekly. Your regular ob-gyn can refer you to our specialists anytime they’re needed.

Consultations for high-risk pregnancies

Consultation with these OHSU specialists are valuable for women who have medical illnesses or increased risk for genetic complications, such as:

  • A family history of genetic disease.
  • Maternal age above 35.

Advanced obstetric ultrasounds

Specialized fetal imaging at Adventist Health Portland now includes:

  • First trimester dating and nuchal translucency measurement.
  • Second trimester anatomy survey.
  • Third trimester growth scans, Doppler and biophysical profile.
  • Fetal tissue examination (typically placental tissue and/or amniotic fluid).

Collaborative care for moms and babies

The OHSU maternal-fetal medicine team is committed to partnering with you and your primary obstetrician to guide you through your high-risk pregnancy. After an initial consult, most patients return to their primary OB provider for ongoing prenatal care.

If you and your baby need additional care, we will work with you and your provider to make sure you get the follow-up care you need and can plan your delivery at the hospital that best fits your needs. This includes hassle-free access to OHSU Doernbecher’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) if needed.
