Eric J. Bansal, MD, FACC
Interventional, Structural and Endovascular Cardiologist
Adventist Health White Memorial
Los Angeles, California

“I’m fortunate to practice in a community I’m familiar with — and particularly at White Memorial, which is a place that feels like home.”

As an interventional cardiologist with extensive training in structural heart disease, Dr. Bansal brings a highly specialized expertise to White Memorial Medical Center. He was inspired from a young age to become a doctor by his father, Jagan Bansal, MD, who has been a pulmonary and critical care specialist for more than 25 years.

In fact, Dr. Bansal fondly remembers occasionally joining his father when he made rounds at White Memorial. “I’m fortunate to practice in a community I’m familiar with — and particularly at White Memorial, which is a place that feels like home,” he says. “I’m proud to follow in my dad’s footsteps as I help with the emerging cardiology program at White Memorial.”

After earning an undergraduate degree at the University of California, Berkeley, Dr. Bansal completed medical school and his residency at the University of Southern California. From there, he completed fellowships at world-renowned heart hospitals — Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center in Houston, Texas, and University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. During his training, Dr. Bansal authored numerous publications and earned standing in professional societies, such as the American College of Cardiology.

Dr. Bansal was drawn to interventional cardiology by the opportunity to bring about big changes in his patients’ health using minimally invasive procedures. These interventions have been proven effective and, compared with conventional surgery, enable a patient to recover more quickly. “Interventional cardiology — and, in particular, structural heart interventions — is a cutting-edge field,” he says. “The technology is constantly improving, which enables us to offer more treatment options to more patients. It’s an exciting field to be in.”

Dr. Bansal recommends that patients with heart disease should always ask if they are eligible for minimally invasive treatments, even if they believe their issue is beyond repair. “We are now able to deliver advanced heart care even to patients who may think they are too old or too sick to have these procedures done,” he says.

Although Dr. Bansal specializes in cardiac interventions, he also focuses on the non-invasive and preventative treatment of heart disease. While many patients can benefit from structural heart procedures, Dr. Bansal always keeps in mind what is best for each individual patient he sees. “I evaluate the disease process, where the patient is coming from and how they feel, and together we create the best treatment plan for them,” he says.

Outside of work, Dr. Bansal enjoys golfing, traveling and spending time with his wife. In addition to English, he speaks Spanish.
