Well-Being and Diversity

At Adventist Health White Memorial, we understand that physicians who care for themselves are more equipped to care for their patients. Our residency programs require commitment — but we understand that residents are people, too, and need time off, rest and a sense of community. To that end, we provide a range of resources to promote physician well-being and prevent burnout.

Employee Assistance Program

All residents can use the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for counseling and life coaching services. Counselors can also offer tips for stress management and burnout prevention. To learn more about the EAP, contact: Angela Zuidema, MA, MFT, 323-265-5013, Zuidema1@ah.org.

Associate and Physician Gym

This workout and fitness facility is designed to make staying in shape easier and more accessible for residents. Located on the first floor of the North Building, the center offers 24/7 complimentary access for all residents.

Sick Days and Time Off

Our residency programs all strictly adhere to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) guidelines for time off. Every resident gets at least one day off every seven days. Additionally, each resident has an annual allotment of sick days. These days are available to help residents prevent burnout and care for their mental and physical health. Residency program coordinators can provide more information about how to request days off.

Retreats and Community-building Activities

Our residents work hard, but we also have fun. Quality interpersonal relationships are crucial to your well-being. We coordinate wellness retreats and other activities designed to help you build a sense of community with your cohort.
