White Memorial is located in the Boyle Heights area of Greater East Los Angeles, in the heart of a bustling multicultural neighborhood in which 90% of people is Latino. Young working families predominate and create a busy environment.
East Los Angeles is also a federally designated medically underserved community creating for the hospital and the residency a unique setting in which to develop and initiate programs which will identify and correct community wide health needs. The Family Medicine Residency Program and Family Health Center have been welcomed by this community. The residency continues to make positive contributions to the community which goes well beyond the exemplary health care which we provide.

About the Hospital
White Memorial Medical Center is a 353 bed acute care teaching hospital, offering tertiary care services to the community. WMMC is owned and operated by Adventist Health, the 4th largest not-for-profit health care organization in America. A new state of the art hospital facility was opened in April 2006 which houses the majority of the residency's rotations.
Affiliations and Accreditation
The hospital is affiliated with and is a major teaching campus of
the Loma Linda
University School of Medicine. It also has strong academic ties to its neighbor, the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine and other academic units.
The hospital is fully accredited by the Joint Commission, and the Association for Hospital Medical Education and is a Category I provider of medical education.

The hospital emergency room is one of the major facilities in the Central City area, serving a potential population of more than 800,000. This busy department is fully staffed by emergency room specialists with full subspecialty backup. It is capable of dealing with almost any emergency or disaster situation and conducts a large paramedic training program. Emergency Room specialists and consultants act as instructors for family medicine residents assigned to the Emergency Room.
