OB/GYN Residency Overview at White Memorial

ResidentsThe postgraduate training program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at White Memorial Medical Center is a fully accredited program affiliated with Loma Linda University School of Medicine (LLUSM). For a second consecutive time, the ACGME has recently granted five years of full accreditation (maximum allowed) to the Adventist Health White Memorial (AHWM) OB/GYN Residency Program.

The four-year program is planned to provide progressively advanced graduate training and responsibility in gynecology and obstetrics. The resident physicians are directly and primarily involved in the care of all patients in this program. In addition to their inpatient care responsibilities, the resident participates in a large, active, supervised ambulatory-care program. Supervision is provided by the full-time faculty and attending staff members.

AHWM is affiliated with the undergraduate medical education program of the LLUSM. Medical Students from the University are assigned to the AHWM OB/GYN program for their clinical experience. It is expected that the residents will participate in LLUSM's medical student teaching program.

In the first postgraduate year, the resident spends their time at White Memorial on obstetrics and gynecology rotations as well as emergency medicine, neonatal intensive care unit, ambulatory medicine/geriatrics, anesthesia and internal medicine.

In the second postgraduate year, the resident rotates at Cedars Sinai Medical Center gynecology-oncology department, under the direction of six-full time gynecologic oncologists. The Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility rotation is done in the second year at California's Advanced Reproductive Endocrinology (C.A.R.E. Fertility) in Glendale.

In the third postgraduate year, the resident has a three-month rotation in gynecologic surgery at Kaiser Permanente Riverside and Kaiser Permanente Moreno Valley. In addition, the resident also has a two-month rotation at Methodist Hospital and San Gabriel Valley Medical Center in minimally invasive surgery. Kaiser Permanente, Methodist Hospital, and San Gabriel Valley Medical Center are private hospitals with a large volume and variety of gynecologic surgery that allows the resident significant operative experience.

In the fourth postgraduate year, the resident assumes rotations in each of the following responsibilities: Administrative Chief Resident, OB Senior and GYN Senior. The Administrative Chief Resident is responsible to the Director of the Residency Training Program and the chairman of the department for the organization and direction of the residency training program.
