OB/GYN Residency Curriculum at White Memorial
Academic Program
The four-year program is planned to provide progressively advanced graduate training and responsibility in gynecology and obstetrics. The resident physicians are directly and primarily involved in the care of all patients in this program. In addition to their inpatient care responsibilities, the resident participates in a large, active, supervised ambulatory-care program. Supervision is provided by the full-time faculty and attending staff members.
Our clinical venues provide over 4,100 deliveries, 4,600 surgical cases and 27,800 outpatient visits each year. Below is an outline of the academic program by year.
PGY-1:
- Obstetrics - 16 weeks
- Gynecology - 16 weeks
- Ward Medicine - 4 weeks
- Medical Intensive Care - 4 weeks
- Ambulatory Medicine/Geriatrics - 24 weeks
- Emergency Medicine - 2 weeks
- Neonatal Intensive Care - 2 weeks
- Anesthesia - 2 weeks
- Night Float - 4 weeks
PGY-2:
- Obstetrics/Ultrasound - 12 weeks
- Gynecology/Colposcopy - 16 weeks
- Gynecologic Oncology at Cedars Sinai - 12 weeks
- Reproductive Medicine at C.A.R.E. Fertility in Glendale - 4 weeks
- Night Float (divided) - 8 weeks
PGY-3:
- Maternal-Fetal Medicine/Genetics - 12 weeks
- Obstetrics (Acting Senior) - 8 weeks
- Gynecologic Surgery at Kaiser Permanente Riverside and Moreno Valley - 12 weeks
- Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Methodist Hospital/SGVMC – 8 weeks
- Oncology MIGS/Robotics at Providence Saint John's Health Center – 4 weeks
- Night Float (divided) - 8 weeks
PGY-4:
- Chief of Obstetrics - 16 weeks
- Chief of Gynecology, including Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Urogynecology - 20 weeks
- Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Methodist Hospital/SGVMC – 4 weeks
- Oncology MIGS/Robotics at Providence Saint John's Health Center – 8 weeks
- Night Float - 4 weeks
Research
Each resident is required to complete a clinical research project during his/her residency training. The resident will present his/her project during the senior year in a form that can be submitted for publication.
Moonlighting
Moonlighting opportunities are available both at AHWM and off-campus. These options may be sought provided that they are prospectively approved by the program director and they do not interfere with resident duties and responsibilities.
