Lyman A. Brewer III MD Simulation Center

Welcome to the Adventist Health White Memorial (AHWM) Lyman A. Brewer III MD Simulation Center. Our modern simulation facility is a realistic, safe learning environment for trainees to apply and test their cognition, skills, and attitudes. We are the first nonprofit teaching hospital in Southern California to integrate simulation technology to provide robust and realistic learning opportunities to prepare our health care associates for actual patient care situations. We offer simulation experiences to our healthcare professionals, community agencies, and community partners. Simulation has now become a standard for clinical education, surgical training, and interdisciplinary team training. The deliberate and repetitive practice using healthcare simulators, especially on low yield high-risk cases, have resulted in improved trainee confidence and performance. This ultimately improves patient outcomes, as well as cost and process efficiencies. Our simulation training curriculum has grown steadily to meet a growing list of educational objectives within the medical, nursing, and all ancillary departments.

About

Adventist Health White Memorial's Lyman A. Brewer III MD Simulation Center, founded June 2014 and made possible by charitable gifts from our generous donors, is a virtual patient environment located on the 3rd floor of the North Building. The Simulation Center enables our clinical staff to:

  • Learn, practice and repeat procedures as often as necessary in order to fine-tune their skills and improve clinical outcomes
  • Develop and refine their skills in an authentic clinical environment designed to reflect actual health care settings without compromising the safety of real patients
  • Work with high fidelity mannequin-based simulation training in real-time situations

Equipment includes:

  • SimMan3G – advanced adult wireless patient simulator
  • SimMom – full-body interactive birthing patient simulator
  • SimJr – state-of-the art pediatric simulator
  • SimNewB – neonatal simulator with realistic newborn traits and lifelike clinical feedback
  • Cultivate group problem-solving skills with access to interactive audio visual for learner support
  • Immerse themselves in increasingly complex clinical scenarios in order to develop teamwork and develop their leadership skills in realistically complex, challenging and often stressful emergency situations
  • Benefit from advanced task training modules proven to improve performance in the operating room and provide a seamless intuitive user experience
  • Learn to make quick decisions while responding to unexpected events
  • Ability to hold telephone conferencing with two large conference rooms housing 72” monitors for various uses in a continuous effort to enhance clinical competence
