Adventist Health White Memorial earns ‘A’ award from Leapfrog Group

Green Spring 2019Our community’s confidence in the safety and quality of care they receive at Adventist Health White Memorial has, once again, been confirmed by the Leapfrog Group—an independent organization widely hailed as one of the top consumer watchdogs for patient safety in the United States. Our “A” grade means that we meet the Leapfrog Group’s most rigorous standards for keeping our patients safe from medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

In fact, patients across Southern California can look to Adventist Health hospitals for this level of safety: All three of our Southern California regional hospitals—Glendale, White Memorial (East Los Angeles/Boyle Heights) and Simi Valley—earned an “A” in Leapfrog’s Spring 2019 Hospital Safety awards.

What the Leapfrog Safety Award Means

Leapfrog awards are not about hospitals achieving success among their peers; they are, instead, focused on consumers—the patients and their loved ones who trust hospitals for their care and safety. An “A” rating means that a hospital such as Adventist Health White Memorial has met the high standards of the Leapfrog Group, who uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to determine the scores they give.

To create their comprehensive scoring system, the Leapfrog Group considers a hospital’s consistency in utilizing industry-recommended treatment, its use of technology and processes that increase safety, and the manner in which it safeguards patients as physicians and other medical professionals perform procedures and provide other treatment.

How You Can Improve Your Safety in the Hospital

While patient safety is primarily the hospital’s responsibility, you can help your caregivers help you—or your young children or other loved ones—by taking action before you are admitted to the hospital and during your stay. Follow these recommendations for being an informed and involved patient.
