Family Medicine Residency Program Curriculum & Rotations

The PGY1 year will be focused on inpatient training primarily at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. This first year with our academic affiliate, the UC Davis Department of Family and Community Medicine, will include thirteen 4 week block rotations as follows: 6 Adult Medicine blocks, 1 Pediatric block, 2 OB blocks, 2 Emergency Medicine blocks (adult and pediatric), 1 Critical Care block and 1 vacation block. All 3 years emphasize Behavioral and Population Health and the Underserved.

Our curriculum mirrors and matches the residency experience.

One block=4 weeks

PGY1 all in Sacramento at UCD (2) and the Sacramento VA (5)

1 block of adult emergency medicine

1 block of pediatric emergency medicine

1 block of inpatient pediatrics

4 blocks of inpatient adult medicine at UCD medical center

2 blocks of inpatient adult medicine at the VA

Longitudinal Curriculum not listed in block schedule rural OB at site 4 Adventist Health Clearlake in PGY2 and PGY3 during surgery/gyn/ and geriatrics blocks (eg: 1 x24 hour shift weekly for 8 weeks)

Night float

PGY2/3 Vacation: 2 weeks in elective blocks and 2 weeks in subspecialty surgery (PGY2) or subspecialty medicine (PGY3)

Family Medicine Practice

At UCD in PGY1: one half day a week

In Ukiah at AHUV Rural Health Clinic in PGY2=3 half days a week; in PGY3=4 half days a week

Family Medicine Inpatient Service/Clinic First at the Family Medicine Practice site with procedures: 4 consecutive blocks (16 weeks)with alternating weeks focused on the FMP clinic and the FMP inpatient service (one week in clinic alternating with one week caring for the patients hospitalized at AHUV from the clinic)

Night Float:

3 consecutive nights in PGY2 and PGY3
