Dina’s Story – Sonora’s finest supporting breast cancer
patients and survivors
Spot a Sonora Police Department officer around town in the month of October,
and chances are they’ll be sporting a bright pink addition to their uniform.
Each year, officers purchase pink badges—3D printed by Sonora High’s Engineering Department—to promote breast health awareness and fundraise for breast cancer patients and survivors like Dina Duquette.
Dina was diagnosed with breast cancer in June of 2019. She underwent surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment under the care of the team at the Diana J. White Cancer Institute.
“Everybody in this facility loves their job,” she says. “It is truly top-notch.”
Dina completed her treatment in 2020, and she now leads Hiking to Heal, a group that supports women through the healing power of nature.
You can join Sonora’s finest and help support cancer patients like Dina with a gift to the Cancer Patient Support Fund, which provides resources directly to local cancer patients to cover unexpected expenses and healthcare needs that are not covered by health insurance.
“Cancer comes with the highest level of stress and worry,” Dina explains. “If even a small amount can help someone who is going through their most difficult time, then my story has a bigger purpose.”
