Physicians
Executive Summary: Partnering With Physicians
We depend upon the 249 local physicians who have admitting privileges at Adventist Health Simi Valley to send their patients to us for inpatient and outpatient care, and we value our partnership with them in our shared goal to provide quality care to the residents of our community.
In order to deepen our ties with our medical staff and involve physicians in decisions that affect them, we have engaged them in a number of ways, such as:
- Increasing the frequency of our medical staff perception survey from every three years to once a year.
- Hiring a director of physician development to help doctors associated with Adventist Health Simi Valley build their practices in the community and to strengthen medical staff relationships with the hospital.
- Investing in more than $2 million worth of equipment in 2009 and 2010 for services throughout Adventist Health Simi Valley, bringing new levels of effectiveness to procedures and treatments for a wide variety of diseases and conditions.
- Initiating the Medical Staff Development Committee, which helps to determine our community's greatest needs in terms of medical specialties and then how to best allocate available recruitment funds to bring the most talented new physicians to our community.
- Including physicians on our governing and foundation boards, as well as various committees, such as campus construction planning groups.
- Offering the Medical Staff Resource Committee, which rapidly responds to concerns expressed about members of the medical staff, assists physicians who have policy or practice questions or need personal support, and serves the medical staff in a variety of other ways.
- Hosting a quarterly breakfast and educational seminar for physician office managers.
Our efforts to enhance our partnership with the hospital's medical staff have had a measurable impact. Recent physician perception surveys show a considerable rise in the favorable ratings of medical staff regarding a number of aspects of the hospital.
