A Gift of Love and Gratitude

Margaret “Marge” Elizabeth (Feuster) Bendik was born September 23rd, 1922 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania to Ralph Wallace Feuster and Mary Belle (King) Feuster, the eldest daughter of 8. After graduating from Uniontown Senior High School, Marge went on to work at the Uniontown Herald-Standard newspaper. On July 6th, 1944, she married Albert “Herk” Bendik who worked as a vacation-relief radio operator for American Airlines (AA). For the first two years of their marriage, they enjoyed “one long honeymoon”, living in 12 cities all across the country before finally settling in Los Angeles in 1946 when Herk took a permanent position. Marge became a secretary for Ub Iwerks at Disney Studio’s special effects department until 1948 when she and Herk began their family. They lived in West Los Angeles for more than 60 years during which time Marge and Herk were active members of Gateway Christian Church followed by St. John’s Presbyterian Church. In 2015 they moved to Simi Valley to be closer to their son, Richard, and his family.

Marge passed away peacefully Monday morning, September 30th, 2019, at her Simi Valley home — seven days after her 97th birthday and only a few months after she and Herk celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her husband, four children and seven grandchildren, two sisters and youngest brother.

The family is very grateful to her doctors — Dr. Timothy McNicoll, Dr. Mohan Lakhani, Dr. Jieshi Yan, Dr. Vijay Kumar, Dr. Bassam Ghanem, and Dr. Kwan Chong — and the outstanding nursing staff, particularly those of Telemetry 2, for the wonderful and attentive care she received over the last four years, which was instrumental in helping keep her health and spirits high.
