Audiometry

Monitoring your hearing is another service we are able to offer as part of our comprehensive Wellness and Occupational Health Program.

Audiometry is the testing of hearing ability. Typically, audiometric tests determine a subject’s hearing level with the help of an audiometer but may also measure ability to discriminate between different sound intensities, recognize pitch or distinguish speech from background noise.

Your hearing and noise exposure

Too much noise exposure may cause a temporary change in hearing (your ears may feel stuffed up) or a temporary ringing in your ears (tinnitus). These short-term problems usually go away within a few minutes or hours after leaving the noise. However, repeated exposures to loud noise can lead to permanent, incurable hearing loss or tinnitus. Noise-induced hearing loss is 100 percent preventable, but once acquired, hearing loss is permanent and irreversible. Therefore, preventative measures must be taken by employers and workers to ensure the protection of workers’ hearing.

Within the clinic, we will be able to test your hearing by using a machine called an Audiometer. After the test, you will be given a report as to the status of your hearing.
