LISA Laser in Portland

Offering unparalleled precision in robotic-assisted surgery

Adventist Health Portland is proud to be the only healthcare provider on the West Coast to offer patients the LISA Laser in our robotic-assisted procedures. The LISA Laser is a device that attaches to the da Vinci Surgical System and offers an unparalleled level of precision. The dexterity and accuracy of the robot combined with the precise cutting that the laser provides is second to none.

Although many lasers have been used in surgical procedures, this is the first laser to be designed specifically for soft tissue. The laser's ability to cut precisely with minimal blood loss makes it ideal for robotic procedures. The LISA Laser offers a minimal thermal lateral spread of less than 0.5 millimeters. This means it is precise enough to protect important structures of the body.

The LISA Laser works by delivering a finely focused laser through a small glass fiber not much thicker than human hair. The fiber is threaded through a special wrist on the robotic arm. This fiber is very flexible and when connected to the robotic arms can be used in an extremely precise manner. The advantage that the laser provides is the ability to cut tissue with almost no heat damage. This allows for faster healing, less pain and shorter hospital stays.

The following conditions can be treated with the LISA Laser:

  • Adhesions
  • Endometriosis
  • Fibroids
  • Hysterectomies

The benefits of the LISA Laser can include:

  • Less bleeding resulting in less need for transfusion
  • Less pain
  • Quicker recovery times
  • Smaller incisions
  • Less complications and better outcomes
