Emotional Wellness Center in Portland

A new outpatient mental health service

To help fill a huge need for ongoing behavioral and mental healthcare in Portland, Adventist Health has opened the Emotional Wellness Center. The Emotional Wellness Center offers both intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs.

This center continues Adventist Health's 70-year dedication to caring for the mental health of our patients in Portland. Adventist Health has a long heritage of caring for the whole person — which means the mind and spirit, not just the body.

For decades, Adventist Health operated the largest inpatient behavioral health unit in the Portland metro area. In January 2017, we transferred our 43 inpatient beds to the new Unity Center for Behavioral Health, a 24-hour behavioral health services center providing emergency psychiatric care to those in mental health crises. This innovative model of behavioral healthcare was born from the teamwork of four health systems in Portland.

But there is still a huge need for mental health services in Portland. Oregon is ranked dead last in mental healthcare, according to Mental Health America. We have the highest occurrences of mental illness and the worst access to care.

That's where the Emotional Wellness Center comes in. This unique center supports ongoing recovery after a mental health crisis and provides resources and education to help avert such crises.

Appropriate clients for our services include:

  • Patients with active mental illness who would benefit from a psychotherapeutic program
  • Those who do not have active suicidal or homicidal ideation
  • Patients who are medically stable
  • Those who are capable of performing basic self-care

We accept most major insurances including Medicare and Medicaid.
