Comprehensive emergency care in Portland

Adventist Health Portland’s emergency room offers a wide range of services to make your visit as pleasant as possible.

Our commitment to your whole-person care sets Adventist Health Portland’s emergency room apart. That means we care not just about how your body is doing. We care passionately about your mind and spirit too.

If you or a family member would like to talk with one of our spiritual care chaplains, please just ask us. Our chaplains are always ready to meet with you, pray with you, and hear what’s on your heart and mind.

Laboratory & X-rays

Blood tests, X-rays and other types of tests give us vital information about what’s really going on inside your body. That means we can better diagnose and treat whatever condition or concern brought you to the emergency room.

Different types of tests take different amounts of time to get results. Some types of tests are more complicated, and sometimes we need other specialists to review the results. And like all emergency services, we have to prioritize tests and imaging by the severity of each patient’s condition. These factors can all increase how long you stay in the ER.

For some of our most common tests, here’s how long until your results are typically available:

  • EKG: 10 minutes
  • X-rays: 15 minutes
  • Blood tests: 90 minutes
  • Urine tests: 60 minutes
  • Ultrasound: 30 minutes
  • CT scan: 30 minutes

Filling prescriptions

You may fill prescriptions at a local pharmacy or at Professional Center 205 Pharmacy on the Adventist Health campus. Located in the Pavilion, our pharmacy is open weekdays from 9 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

We are happy to help you find other local pharmacies, including ones open 24 hours a day.

The emergency room does not routinely fill prescriptions or arrange refills from previous visits.

To eat or not to eat

In order for us to help you as quickly as possible, please avoid eating or drinking before our providers have a chance to evaluate you. Some tests and treatments have to be delayed if you eat or drink.

If you have a friend or loved one with you who needs something, we have a cafeteria and various food and beverage vending machines near our emergency room.

Depending on your symptoms, we may need to collect a urine or stool sample to test. Because of that, please check with the Emergency Room staff before you use the restroom.

A smoke & latex-free environment

For the health and comfort of all our patients and visitors, Adventist Health maintains a smoke-free environment.

We also want our ER and hospital to be safe for people with latex allergies. With that in mind, latex balloons are not allowed.

Your privacy & visitors

Your privacy and the privacy of our other patients is very important to us. So is your comfort. That’s why we limit how many visitors are allowed in our emergency treatment area.

Sometimes we also have to restrict visitors depending on your condition and treatment. But please know we want to connect you with your loved ones again as soon as it is safe to do so.
