MEDICAL SURGICAL DEPARTMENT
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Rate: $17.171- $22.530

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES:

- Receives and directs patients, visitors, and hospital staff arriving at the nursing unit in a friendly courteous manner
- Performs unit related clerical functions including answering telephone, maintenance of forms, supplies, records, mail, filing, and other assigned duties
- Prepares and maintains charts for all patients assigned to unit
- Reviews medical record documentation and notifies appropriate staff when not completed in accordance with hospital standards
- Coordinates activities of nursing with other departments to deliver quality patient care
- Transcribes physician orders, and orders appropriate services for patients
- Relays patient information and messages for examinations, treatments, surgery, clinical procedures and test results to appropriate staff and departments
- Maintains accurate patient census and notifies appropriate departments of admissions, transfers, and discharges
- Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

- High school diploma or equivalent
- BLS required
- Minimum one year hospital or medical office experience as receptionist, unit clerk, certified nursing assistant, or licensed vocational nurse
- NAHUC certification within one year of hire
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Demonstrated ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in English
- Working knowledge of the use and applications of computers
- Capable of performing position related physical requirements
