PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES:
- Promotes MCDH Mission, Vision, and Values.
- Exhibits strong teamwork, organizational, interpersonal, and customer relations skills.
- Demonstrates understanding and compliance with regulatory agency requirements and survey readiness standards.
- Utilizes planning and implementation of the intraoperative process according to AORN, The Joint Commission, and CDPH standards.
- Sets up surgery/procedure room to ensure all necessary supplies are available prior to initiation of cases.
- Demonstrates surgical conscience, accountability and patient-centered care
- Under general supervision, assists in the care of patients in the surgery unit.
- Anticipates physician needs and reacts accordingly.
- Facilitates room turnovers by participating in room transition to include room cleaning per standards.
- Assists other personnel before, during, and after each surgical procedure.
- Follows universal precautions.
- Prepares and maintains sterile supplies and equipment.
- Maintains necessary logs and documentation.
- Call coverage to support after hours surgical services.
- Maintains fiscal responsibility of department: monitors supply availability and utilization, checking for outdates, accountability for charting accuracy and appropriately documentation of utilization charges.
- Seeks out opportunities for enhanced knowledge and sustained relevance to current practice standards.
- Effectively utilizes resources and time in order to plan and perform nursing care and other assigned duties.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technician Program.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certificate within one year of hire.
- Experience scrubbing for all surgical specialties.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to communicate in Spanish highly desirable.
- Capable of performing position related physical requirements.
