MEDICAL RECORDS TECHNICIAN

Rate: $16.706-$21.920

PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES:

- Scans and abstracts lab results, prescription orders, outside reports, and other documents in appropriate location in patient EHR using NextGen ICS

- Monitors and distributes incoming electronic faxes to patient EHR and/or appropriate NextGen PAQ or NextGen In Box.

- Trouble shoots problems with the electronic fax and calls IT or Plant Maintenance, if necessary.

- Responsible for creating, editing and maintaining Provider scheduling templates in NextGen

- Responsible for the preparation, routing, maintenance and filing of patient paper charts
- Responsible for timely retrieval and electronic distribution of test results, reports, prescription requests, and messages, received electronically or hard copy, to providers, nursing staff and staff electronically via NextGen PAQ or In Box.
- Documents prescription refills in the appropriate template in the patient’s EHR
- Updates medications in patient’s EHR from information received from Pharmacies
- Assists in handling release of information in accordance with applicable laws and hospital policies, including preparing and sending records/documents to pharmacies, hospitals, other providers, and agencies as needed
- Researches patient information as needed for providers or staff
- Pulls and prepares charts for next day’s appointments
- Enters and retrieves data, types correspondence, creates and sends reports using Windows based and Microsoft Office programs
- Follows established clinic policies and procedures, including confidentiality requirements as set forth by HIPAA and MCDH
- Supports an environment of teamwork, professional communication, excellent “customer service” and efficiency
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Previous physician office experience and general office experience required
- Basic knowledge of medical records forms and content, and medical terminology
- Demonstrated ability to file records in designated areas according to applicable alphabetic and numeric filing system
- Must possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to maintain composure under pressure
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff and the public
- Working knowledge of the use and applications of computers
- Ability to communicate in Spanish highly desirable
- Capable of performing position related physical requirements
