PRINCIPAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Directs the activities and operations of the Laboratory Services Department
  • Drives quality improvement activities through ensuring compliance with the Performance Improvement Plan
  • Assures appropriate procedures are followed in obtaining data for diagnosis of diseases
  • Develops and maintains laboratory policies and procedures
  • Coordinates with Pathologist to schedule work and establish priorities
  • Develops work schedules and assigns work to qualified staff
  • Coordinates maintenance of equipment and ordering of supplies
  • Supervises maintenance of records regarding tests; charts test results to assure acceptable variation within quality control ranges
  • Performs experimental testing procedures and suggests improvements in procedures and equipment to improve test results and cost effectiveness
  • Responsible for annual operating and capital budget activities and management
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree in Physical Science
  • Current State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist license
  • Six years clinical laboratory experience in a license laboratory preferably at an acute care hospital
  • Minimum two years supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated skills in financial management, accreditation standards, operations, budgeting, and scheduling of laboratory functions
  • Demonstrated ability to guide and develop clinical and supervisor staff
  • Capable of performing position related physical requirements
