Prostate cancer prevention and early detection for men: What you can do

  • Since prostate cancer often gets worse without showing symptoms, every man over age 50 should visit a urologist to follow their guidelines for any additional testing that may be needed.
  • Talk with your doctor about having a PSA (prostate-specific antigen) screening, a simple blood test that may help to show the presence of prostate cancer.

Treatment: What we can do for you

Our urological specialists are skilled in surgical procedures for the full range of prostate and other urological cancers. Depending on your circumstances, your surgeon may be able to use our da Vinci robotic assistant for your surgery, which typically results in less post-surgery pain, a shorter hospital stay and quicker recovery.

Survivorship for prostate cancer: What we can do together

  • Prostate and reproductive cancers are often particularly difficult for men because they are intimate and are tied so closely to self-identity. In these cases, the Adventist Health philosophy of whole-person care — body, mind, and spirit — can help to bring both emotional and physical healing.
  • Since men are often more reluctant than women to discuss their symptoms, concerns, side-effects, and fears, we take the lead in sharing frequently asked questions in an environment that fosters open and honest conversation.
