Glendale Home Sleep Study

A convenient sleep test you can complete at home

Adventist Health Glendale offers sleep studies in the convenience of your home. A home sleep study (also called a home sleep test) is a convenient way to screen for sleep apnea without the need to spend the night in a sleep lab.

To diagnose sleep apnea or other sleep disorders, a patient must undergo polysomnography (a sleep study). Until now, this study was normally conducted in a sleep lab, where the polysomnography equipment records physiological data. However, with today's technological advancements, a modified sleep study can be performed at home.

Benefits of home sleep testing include:

  • The sleep test is conducted in your home in familiar surroundings
  • Home sleep testing can be especially advantageous to the homebound, elderly or those with illnesses who require specialized home care.
  • The typical cost of a home sleep study is lower in cost than an in-lab sleep study and is typically just as accurate in diagnosing obstructive sleep apnea

The test is conducted with a small device taken home and returned to Adventist Health Glendale the next day. Test data is available shortly after the equipment is returned for interpretation by a sleep specialist. Most insurances will cover a home sleep study.

If you suffer from daytime sleepiness, loud and frequent snoring, gasping, breathing pauses, morning headaches, nocturnal gastroesophageal reflux, or high blood pressure, among other issues, you may have sleep apnea. Discuss any symptoms of sleep apnea (snoring, dry or sore throat, waking up gasping, daytime sleepiness, etc.) you might have with your doctor to find out if a home sleep study is right for you.
