On Thursday, November 8, the intense Camp Fire prompted immediate evacuation from Paradise and Magalia, California, including our own Adventist Health Feather River hospital and clinics. Our team responded with professionalism and bravery, risking their own lives to safely evacuate 67 inpatients in less than 40 minutes. The surrounding communities were forever transformed.

After learning that more than 600 of our associates lost their homes and possessions, Adventist Health committed $30 million to ensuring that they receive pay and benefits through February 5. This removes one immediate concern from a stressful and frightening situation.

Adventist Health also established a Fire Assistance Fund, offering a matching challenge on November 14 to support the further needs of our associates including providers and volunteers. We received an outpouring of generosity from our extended family of associates, partners, vendors and friends across the country. We are committed to ensuring that our associates have the support they need to recover from this tragedy.

But the need extends far beyond our associates.

Nearly 14,000 homes and 14,000 jobs were lost due to the Camp Fire. Our community is suffering, with many residents having no plans for what to do or where to go next.

Adventist Health is working quickly to restore vital health services for the community. However, we must also work to restore hope. For that we need your help. Adventist Health is expanding the Fire Assistance Fund to aid in our relief efforts for the entire Butte County community affected by the fire. Please join us with your pledge of support toward a goal of an additional $3 million for this critical community need.

You can help Adventist Health bring $10 million of new resources to the people of Butte County. All the funds raised for our associates will continue to be distributed for that purpose. Contributions received after December 1 will be used for expanded recovery efforts, including community health needs, such as restoration, clean up, re-establishment of vital services, together with renewing a sense of health, wholeness and hope in our community.
