Walla Walla General Hospital Presents 2016 Physician of the Year Award

Awards & Recognition

Adventist Health is pleased to announce Elizabeth McMurtry, DO, FACEP, Emergency Medicine; Adjunct Clinical Faculty, Pacific Northwest University, as the 2016 recipient of the Physician of the Year award. The award will be presented to Dr. McMurtry at the Adventist Health Physician Leadership Symposium in San Diego, Calif. in October. Nominations for the esteemed award were submitted by the medical staff at Walla Walla General Hospital.

Her exemplary role is extended from her work as an emergency physician to her work as an instructor and mentor for medical students with Pacific Northwest University centered in Yakima, WA. She not only takes her students on clinical rotations, but also presents a four-hour lecture once a week. Dr. McMurtry says, when it comes to medicine, "we are all teachers."

Her colleagues pay special attention to her dual role in the hospital setting and commend her for it. Evelyn Rodriguez, MD, says, “Dr. McMurtry is as caring and dedicated with patients as she is with medical students who are the future of medicine. Her documentation and bedside manners are great.”

Dr. McMurtry earned her Doctor of Osteopathy degree from Des Moines University Osteopathic Medicine in 2002 and completed a residency in emergency medicine in 2005. Since that time she has been a practicing emergency room physician in Nevada, Arizona and Washington, culminating in her employment with Walla Walla General Hospital.
