Adventist Health Ukiah Valley Opens New Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit Building

Diabetes, Emergency Department

Adventist Health Ukiah Valley (AHUV) announces the opening of their much anticipated new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and rooftop helipad Thursday, October 25, 2018.

“After many years of dedicated hard work by so many individuals I am so proud that today we are able to open the doors of our world class emergency department and intensive care unit. This would not have been possible without the generous support of so many of our own staff, physicians and community members. We are excited to have a facility that’s worthy of the care our team provides.” Says David Weis, AHUV Operations Executive.

This new 14,700-square foot ED is four times as big as the previous space. It has 19 private treatment rooms, including rooms for special types of care such as assessment and triage, psychiatric care, gynecological care, negative pressure rooms for highly infectious patients, and two trauma rooms equipped like mini-operating rooms. Patient flow has been carefully designed so patients brought in by ambulance or helicopter are received through a separate entrance from the public walk-in and drop-off entrance.

For patients who require hospitalization in the ICU, eight critical care rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, natural lighting, and accommodations for loved ones at the bedside. Each ICU room is also equipped with its own temperature control systems to provide for individual control of temperature for the comfort of our patients.

AHUV President Gwen Matthews commented, “Wednesday, October 24th was the culmination of a seven year journey for me when the California Department of Public Health gave us the certificate of occupancy. What a long-awaited day! October 25th we will care for our patients and their families in the new ER and ICU. We couldn’t be happier.”
