Caring for the Taft Community

Physicians, 2018

TAFT – Melessa Mattis, a certified family nurse practitioner (FNP-C), is caring for patients at Adventist Health Medical Office - Taft.

The Jamaican native said she always wanted a career in nursing. She began her first year in the nursing program at the International University of Nursing on the British Commonwealth of St. Kitts and Nevis. When an opportunity presented itself to complete her medical education in Oklahoma, she jumped at the chance.

She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of Central Oklahoma School of Nursing, then attended Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tenn., where she earned a Master of Science in Nursing.

She’s been a nurse since 2007 and an FNP since 2016.

Too many patients she’s seen over the years, she said, could have benefitted from early intervention. “I want to be out there and be that person trying to prevent some of these health conditions.”

Mattis enjoys traveling, watching movies and walking her Labrador in local parks.

Appointments to see Mattis may be scheduled at Medical Office – Taft, 501 6th Street, with a phone number of (661) 763-5131.
