With warmer weather and longer days, summer might be the only inspiration you need to transform from a night owl to an early bird. Here are a few ways summer can help motivate you to get out of bed and ready for the day ahead.

  1. Embrace nature’s alarm clock. With the sun rising before 6 a.m., the subtle increase of natural light is an easy way to prepare your body for a productive morning routine. Try opening your curtains or blinds before you go to bed and embrace the early morning light as a sign to start the day. Knock out some extra errands, pick up that new hobby you’ve been wanting to try or spend a little more time around the breakfast table with your loved ones.
  2. Take your gym routine outdoors. You can also use the sunrise as your cue to exercise. Studies have shown that more movement in the morning can improve productivity and brain function. If you’re a regular gym-goer, pause your indoor facility membership and take your routine outdoors. Break a sweat with a morning jog to the local park, beach or your favorite neighborhood view. Use your surroundings as personal exercise equipment. Try some tricep dips on a nearby bench or lunge your way up the sidewalk. Get creative and don’t forget your sunscreen!
  3. Appreciate a breath of fresh air. If you’re like most Americans, you spend your day sitting indoors looking at a computer screen. There’s no better way to appreciate the seasonal summer weather than with a simple pre-work breath of fresh air. Take advantage of the season’s extra sunlight and head out for a brisk walk, read a few chapters on the deck or just enjoy a moment of deep breathing exercises in the fresh air. Feel invigorated as you spend time away from your devices and clear your mind for your day.
  4. Enjoy the fruits of summer. Did you know morning is the best time for your body to consume fruit? Turn your breakfast into a delicious experiment, incorporating all the fresh fruits summer has to offer. Grab some fruits from the local farmers market and mix it up with homemade smoothies. Keep it exciting and incorporate new fruity creations like a colorful acai bowl. Top it off with some honey and shredded coconut for a pop of extra flavor!

Welcome the morning with a summer routine that helps you feel your best all season long. Do you already have tried-and-true morning routines that work for you?
