Jendi Coursey, Book Signing, Perseverance and Passion

Event The Mendocino Book Company is hosting the much-anticipated book signing of Jendi Cousey’s, Perseverance and Passion on Thursday, March 8 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Perseverance and Passion was commissioned by Gwen Matthews, Adventist Health Ukiah Valley President, in honor of its 60th Anniversary. “There is a rich story to be told of the many people through the years who have cared for the healthcare needs of the people of Ukiah Valley. It was time to share and celebrate those who shaped health care in Ukiah.”

Perseverance and Passion brings the history of local healthcare to life by sharing the stories of those who lived it. “I interviewed as many people as I could find: doctors, nurses, administrators, patients, and community members, sometimes their children or grandchildren, to better understand how Ukiahans have met the challenges of delivering health care in a small, rural community,” said Coursey, author. The stories came together with a common theme “Ukiah had a knack for attracting a special breed of medical practitioner who had the confidence and independence to embrace a broad and challenging medical practice,” replied Coursey. These are the very people that pushed to bring advanced medical care to Ukiah, serve our underserved populations and build a sense of community. These stories show that through years of change, adversity, and triumph the goal always remained the same — to provide excellent health care in a rural setting.

“This book signing comes at an exciting time in our history. Medical residents will soon step into the legacy created by those featured in the book. While we reflect on the past we look toward a future of new stories yet to be told,” said Matthews.

Adventist Health Ukiah Valley and Jendi Coursey invite you to the official book signing of Perseverance and Passion, The People Who Shaped Health Care in Ukiah, California. Coursey will share stories from the book and sign copies for those in attendance.
