Walk of Faith Steps Out Sunday, September 24

Walkers of all ages and their dogs will be stepping out on behalf of Faith in Action at the Walk of Faith on Sunday, September, 24, 2017, at 3 p.m. This fun-filled walk in support of the respite care ministry of Faith in Action starts at Tillamook Regional Medical Center, pauses at the 9th Street Park for a brief water break and blessing of the canine walkers, and ends back at the medical center with light refreshments.

Each year the Walk of Faith honors a person or family that has experienced the challenges and rewards of caregiving. In appreciation for her many years of compassionate support for older people in our community, we will recognize Sharon Griffin as our honoree this year. A past staff member with Faith in Action, Sharon and her husband Ron continue to support Faith in Action through connecting Griffin House residents with the positive social experiences that a day at Wellspring respite day center can provide.

"Sharon Griffin is such a thoughtful and compassionate person," shared Mollie Reding, Faith in Action Coordinator. "As a long-time caregiver in our community, she knows first-hand the benefit that social interaction provides to the mental and physical well-being of homebound seniors. The Griffin House residents are a welcome part of our Wellspring family. And we are delighted to honor Sharon at this year’s Walk of Faith."

Walk of Faith is for everyone, from babies in stroller to families and groups to individuals in wheelchairs. Family dogs are welcomed to participate, as they are great companions and often caregivers, too. Festivities and awards will include honoring of caregivers – human and canine – as well as awards for the best-behaved dogs. The first 20 dogs will receive a special “doggie bag” filled with treats donated by local businesses and individuals.

Pre-registration is encouraged. Registration forms are available at area churches, in the hospital’s front lobby and online at Registration fees: Children under 12 years $5; dogs (leash required) $5; individuals $10; families, including the dog $25; groups of 10+ for $100. There is no charge for participants in strollers or wheelchairs and their attendants.

Faith in Action volunteers offer hope, support, and friendship to people of all ages who battle chronic illness, mental illness, and disabilities through in-home respite care, friendly visiting, house work, yard work, and minor home repairs. Home-based volunteer services are provided at no cost. Faith in Action also operates Wellspring, an adult respite day care center that offers an affordable “day away” for caregivers 4 days per month.
