Family Medicine Physician Joins Adventist Health in Orosi
OROSI - Dr. Alberto Ruvalcaba knew from a young age that he was going to become a doctor. It was a dream of his mother’s as he grew up in a farmworker family in Orosi.
On Nov. 1, Dr. Ruvalcaba, a family medicine physician, began caring for patients at Adventist Health Medical Office – Orosi – the same community where he was born and raised.
He provides care to children and adults in a number of specialties including diabetes, hypertension, gynecology and pre-natal care.
“My mother said I was not cut out for fieldwork because I would wash my hands every five minutes,” says Ruvalcaba. “Dad wanted me to work, but not my mom. She fought for me to stay at home and focus on schooling.”
Ruvalcaba began his formal education at College of the Sequoias in Visalia, then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Biology from California State University, Fresno. He earned his medical degree from University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle and completed his family medicine residency at Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno and University of California, San Francisco – Fresno.
He’s been practicing family medicine for six years and said he’s excited to be practicing medicine in the Central Valley.
“It’s my home, my town, my people,” he says. “I feel as though I’m giving back to them.”
Ruvalcaba has an 8-year-old daughter. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family, traveling and exploring restaurants. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
Appointments to see Dr. Ruvalcaba may be made at Medical Office – Orosi, 41696 Road 128, by calling (559) 528-6966.
