UVMC Celebrates National Nurse’s Week

Employee News Ukiah-CA- Ukiah Valley Medical Center (UVMC), soon to be known as Adventist Health Ukiah Valley honors their dedicated nurses by celebrating National Nurse’s Week. To show appreciation UVMC will be hosting a special event each day of the week, including a movie and popcorn night, a spa day and a special dinner.

There are 266 UVMC nurses that provide compassionate care to our community. Each one is dedicated to saving lives and improving the health of the patients in our community. “Nurses are in many ways the heartbeat of our hospital and clinics. They are so much more then healthcare providers. They are compassionate healers, they provide comfort when a patient or the patient’s loved one is facing difficult news, they bring joy to the room even in the most desperate of situations, and they are leaders, lending strength to their team. This week celebrates all that it means to be a nurse. Happy Nurse’s Week.” Gwen Matthews, CEO and President of UVMC.

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale's birthday. This year the American Nursing Association has designated the theme of National Nurse Week to be, “Nursing: the Balance of Mind, Body and Spirit.” Heather Van Housen, CNO commented on her appreciation for her nursing team, “This year we have seen a significant increase in our patient satisfaction scores. I am certain that our nurse’s remarkable dedication to each patient and their commitment to continually improve the quality of care provided has had a direct influence on these positive numbers. I am so proud of our nursing team.”
