St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley Earns Silver Well Workplace Award

Awards & Recognition

St. Helena, CA – St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley (SHNV) is one of five companies and organizations nationwide to receive silver-level recognition for its commitment to worksite wellness. The Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA) uses a rigorous set of criteria when evaluating organizations that compete to be recognized among America’s healthiest companies.

St. Helena Hospital has a robust wellness program that involves human resources, a wellness committee, nutritional services and communications leaders who collaborate to motivate employees through innovative strategies and tactics. The WELCOA Well Workplace application process was led by Ryan Veness, lifestyle coach for the organization.

This year, St. Helena Hospital launched an employee fitness program that provides classes to employees during all shifts throughout the week, including Zumba, Yoga, and Bootcamp class. This is in addition to an on-site gym that is available to all employees at all hours of the day. In addition, we participate in several “Wellness Challenges” to motivate employees to engage in exercise, healthy eating and other positive behaviors. Enterprise-wide, the Living Well whole-person health and wellness program provides additional resources and incentives for healthy behaviors.

The Hospital is continuing to grow its health promotion programs later this year by offering an onsite Produce Market that offers fresh produce for employees and the community. In addition, they are developing a community garden which will provide fresh produce for its employees and the community.

“We believe that to help our patients get healthy, our staff needs to be healthy. We’ve implemented exercise classes taught by local area fitness experts, and created many employee fitness challenges. With this recognition, it’s reassuring to know that we’re on the right path,” commented Steven Herber, MD, president and ceo of St. Helena Hospital. “Our employees are so important to us, and we want to do everything we can to help them feel great every day - physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.”
