Not all superheroes wear capes: Celebrating National Doctors’ Day

Did you know that March 30 is National Doctors’ Day? For more than 80 years, Doctors’ Day has recognized physicians for not only their hard work but also their contributions to society and the community. And at Adventist Health, we’d especially like to honor all 5,000 of our physicians that are shining examples of living God’s love by inspiring health, wholeness and hope.

“Physicians have a leg up because what we do makes a difference in people’s lives,” says Dr. Brian Johnston, chair of emergency medicine at White Memorial Center in Los Angeles. “And if you can relate to people—and do it with love—that’s remarkable.”

Dr. Johnston’s compassion and drive to help the underserved in his community led him outside the hospital walls and into the streets—literally. He saw a need in the homeless community and began providing mobile care to people that would otherwise not be able to seek help.

“I treat people with respect, dignity and love—I’m not here to judge. I’m here to help,” says Dr. Johnston. “I think the impact that we have is far greater than we’re willing to recognize.”
