New Family Medicine Provider Joins St. Helena Family Health Center - Clearlake

Physicians Clearlake, Calif.—The St. Helena Family Health Center – Clearlake is excited to welcome Jose Barrios, MD, who specializes in family medicine. Dr. Barrios is board certified, is bilingual, and brings a passion for teaching and educating his patients.

Barrios was inspired to become a physician at age fourteen by the book Gifted Hands, the autobiography of renowned neurosurgeon Ben Carson. He pursued a career in outpatient care because of the ability to see patients through all stages of their lives. “A major part of healing is taking care of the whole person, not just treating the illness,” he says. “I try to establish real relationships with my patients so that they can trust me for the advice and care they need.”

A lover of science and avid basketball player, Barrios says he would have become a teacher or a basketball coach if he hadn’t become a doctor. “I love teaching, no matter the subject,” he says. “Helping patients understand their health and teaching them about making good choices is central to how I provide care.” Barrios describes himself as a lifelong learner who is always following the latest developments in the rapidly changing field of medicine.

Barrios attended Howard University for his medical education and practiced in a small rural setting at the Fall River Valley Health Care Center, outside of Redding, Calif., before joining St. Helena Family Health Center - Clearlake. He is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and especially interested in sports medicine. He is fluent in Spanish and enjoys seeing patients of all ages, from children through older adults.

“Primary care providers play a vital part in our vision of a healthy community,” says Brent Dupper, Executive Director of Physician and Outpatient Services for St. Helena Hospital Clear Lake. “Dr. Barrios’ approach to healing fits our mission of inspiring health, wholeness and hope.”

Patients may schedule an appointment with Dr. Barrios by calling the St. Helena Family Health Center – Clearlake at 707.995.4500. The clinic is located at 15230 Lakeshore Drive in Clearlake.
