Howard Memorial Hospital Names Judson Howe as New Chief Financial Officer

WILLITS, CA – Judson Howe has been named chief financial officer of Howard Memorial Hospital (HMH), according to Kevin Erich, interim chief executive officer for HMH. Howe, who has worked as interim finance executive at HMH since August 2016, assumed the official title effective March 8.

“I am excited to have Judson take on this role. In the short time that he’s been overseeing our finances, Judson has already made a big impact on improving our business processes, making sure we are making sound business decisions while remaining true to our mission of caring for our community,” shares Erich. “The healthcare industry is constantly changing and it brings me great comfort to have someone of Judson’s experience and skills to help us navigate those changes,” he adds.

Howe has been overseeing finance, accounting and the budgeting process for HMH since Fall of 2016. Prior to this, Howe directed the finances of the hospital in his role as regional director of financial services for Mendocino County where he oversaw the transactional processes of finance and accounting.

“This community and staff are already close to Judson’s heart and it shows. He is constantly looking for ways to improve the way we do things and he inspires others to do the same,” adds Erich.

Originally from Massachusetts, Howe said he was attracted to the Mendocino region for its rural charm, reminding him of his hometown of 6,000 people. “This hospital truly exemplifies what Willits is about, exceptional people who will really get to know you and treat you like family. I’m honored and excited to help improve our business processes so our staff can be even more amazing for our patients and this community for years to come.”

Howe and his family moved to the area in 2013 and have since fallen in love with Northern California. “It’s a great place to raise a family. And to be able to contribute my skills to helping this hospital thrive so we can continue to help grow our community is truly gratifying,” he adds.

Before coming to Mendocino County, Howe served as the director for business intelligence for Glendale Adventist Medical Center. His specialty has been focused on empowering employees to make more informed process improvement decisions by providing them with key insights and data to help them perform their jobs better.

“I’m passionate about perpetual improvement -- making sure that the work we do meets the needs of our staff and our community. It’s an exciting time and I’m looking forward to working with such a dedicated team.”

Howe is a Certified Public Accountant and earned his Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Accounting from California State University - San Bernardino.
