Internationally renowned interventional cardiologist joins Adventist Heart & Vascular Center at St. Helena Hospital, bringing advanced vascular treatment to Napa Valley

Interventional Cardiologist Adventist Heart Vascular St HelenaST. HELENA, CA—After practicing and leading the team at UC Davis Vascular Center for more than 11 years, Dr. John Laird has moved West to join the Adventist Heart & Vascular Institute team at St. Helena Hospital. He brings vast experience, having performed more than 5000 endovascular diagnostic and interventional procedures and has lectured and performed endovascular procedures around the world.

Dr. Laird’s expertise includes innovative procedures for carotid artery disease, including carotid stenting, valve disease, coronary artery disease, abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysmal disease and peripheral artery disease. He is often sought out for his expertise in limb-saving procedures for peripheral artery disease. According to Dr. Laird, “Often times, patients with advanced peripheral artery disease have been told that their only option is limb amputation. My goal is to give them an alternative, and many times I can.”

Among his many areas of leadership and innovation are the investigation of new stents for carotid and peripheral vascular applications and the development of laser angioplasty, including the Excimer laser for complex peripheral interventions. He also led development of new drug coated balloon angioplasty for peripheral artery disease.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Laird as a part of our team and provide this high level of vascular care to our community.” says Dr. Steven Herber, CEO for St. Helena Hospital. “Previously, patients would have to travel outside of the Valley, and often far distances, to receive carotid artery stenting or advanced limb-saving procedures for peripheral vascular disease. Now, they have access right here, close to home with a leading provider.”

When asked why he joined St. Helena Hospital, Dr. Laird said he is excited to work with a great team of cardiac specialists at a hospital known for its innovation in cardiac care. “The team here works very cohesively to provide the full spectrum of cardiac and vascular care under one roof. Having an entire team of specialists working together on a patient’s treatment plan is really the future of healthcare and I’m glad to be a part of it.” He adds that Napa Valley is the perfect fit for his family as well. “We love the outdoors, exercising, riding our horse and even trying our hand at home winemaking.”

Asked what patients can expect when they come to see him, Dr. Laird said “I want to provide all of my patients with a very individual and personal treatment plan. I want them to understand all of their options, so together we can decide the best course of treatment.”

Dr. Laird will be seeing patients at the Adventist Heart & Vascular Institute at 6 Woodland Road, Suite 304 in St. Helena. Please call (707) 963-7200 for more information or to schedule an appointment.
