Visitor Restrictions in Place to Protect Patients

Health Alert, 2017

Flu season is kicking into high gear in the Portland metro area and Adventist Health is seeing increasing numbers of patients with flu-like symptoms in our medical center and clinics.

In order to keep our patients safe, Adventist Health Portland is implementing the following visitor restrictions within our medical center:

  1. No more than two visitors per patient at one time
  2. Visitors ages 18 and younger are limited to visiting immediate family members only

In addition, we also ask visitors and patients who think they may be sick to wash their hands, cover their cough and wear a mask if they have a cough or flu-like symptoms. Masks are available at any registration or information desk in the hospital.

If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms or other non-life threatening conditions, an urgent care or your primary care office is the best place to go for rapid care and to help keep others in our community safe.

You can help keep flu and flu-like illnesses away by following these tips:

  • Wash your hands frequently
  • Get plenty of sleep
  • Drink lots of water
  • Fill your diet with antioxidants and omega-3s
  • Get a flu shot (flu shots take about two weeks to take effect)
  • If you’re coughing or sneezing, wear a mask in public
  • If you feel sick, stay home from work or extracurricular activities
