Passion to Serve

Physicians, 2017

CARUTHERS – When she was 8, living in Kenya, Dr. Daphine Kaniaru became ill with malaria.

“My grandma took me to the hospital, and I remember seeing the nurses dressed in white,” says Dr. Kaniaru. “I wanted to be just like them and help care for the sick.” From that moment grew a passion to serve.

Dr. Kaniaru is now caring for children and adults at Adventist Medical Office – Caruthers, 2357 W. Tahoe Ave.

She moved to the United States to pursue her medical education. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Rutgers University in Newark, N.J., and a medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Her family medicine residency training was completed at Mercy Medical Center in Merced, Calif.

Dr. Kaniaru has a husband of seven years and two children: a 4-year-old daughter and a 2-year-old son. She’s fluent in English and Swahili.

In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities, socializing and serving on mission trips.
