SJCH’s Breast Center Receives ACR’s Center of Excellence Designation

Cancer BAKERSFIELD, CA—OCTOBER 25, 2016— The Breast Center at San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH) announced that it has been designated as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

The ACR recognizes breast imaging centers that have earned accreditation in mammography, stereotactic breast biopsy and breast ultrasound (including ultrasound-guided breast biopsy).

The Breast Imaging Center of Excellence designation is earned for achieving high practice standards in image quality, personnel qualifications, facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs. Board-certified doctors and medical physicists – with expertise in the field of radiology – evaluate all aspects of a facility’s breast imaging services in order to determine the Center of Excellence designation.

The Breast Center at SJCH opened in 2015. It is located adjacent to The AIS Cancer Center, directly across the street from the main hospital on Chester Avenue, in the heart of downtown Bakersfield.

“The addition of The Breast Center to the outpatient services at San Joaquin Community Hospital is making a real difference in our patients’ lives,” said Sharlet Briggs, interim SJCH President and CEO. “As we mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October, this ‘Center of Excellence’ recognition for our center reminds us of the importance for high quality healthcare choices for Kern County residents. It is also further evidence of our staff’s continued commitment to excellence.”

– The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
