New Internal Medicine Specialist at Mountain Medical Family Practice

Shawn Rosen, M.D., is a board-certified internal medicine physician who has begun caring for patients at Mountain Medical Family Practice in Sonora. He most recently practiced with Alliance Medical Group in Pinole, CA, a part of Stanford Health Care. Prior to that, he practiced near his favorite backpacking destination in Bishop, CA, for Northern Inyo Hospital. A mentor during Dr. Rosen’s post-graduate medical training motivated him to explore rural medicine which led him to Sonora and previously to Bishop.

Dr. Rosen has been contracted as a locum tenens physician and will be available to treat patients who are currently without a primary care provider. Sonora Regional Medical Center is aware of the need for primary care in our community. As work progresses to rebuild primary care services and the number of Internal Medicine and Family Medicine physicians available to care for patients in Sonora, Dr. Rosen will help to fill that need as more permanent solutions take shape.

Prior to becoming a primary care physician, Dr. Rosen worked as a management consultant in healthcare for 12 years. He was compelled to become a physician after the loss of a family member to cancer. Dr. Rosen graduated magna cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis, received his medical degree at the University of Rochester, and completed his post-graduate residency training in internal medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he has family.

Dr. Rosen is committed to caring for the whole patient, partnering with them, and using evidenced-based medicine to help achieve their goals. He has a broad range of professional interests including heart diseases, diabetes, hypertension, osteoporosis, thyroid disorders, COPD, asthma, chronic kidney disease, kidney stone prevention, and preventive care.
