Freedom from Smoking Support

Classes and Support Groups

HANFORD – The first class was such a success that Adventist Health / Central Valley Network will offer another “Freedom from Smoking” session, in September, to help people quit smoking.

Three certified facilitators, made up of two respiratory therapists and a registered dietitian with Adventist Health, will lead the American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking program. The free, 7-week, 8 session course is designed to guide and support current smokers on their journey to quitting.

The course covers:

  • Understanding addiction
  • Habits and coping mechanisms
  • Stress management techniques
  • Nicotine replacement therapy
  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Emotional support

Participants should plan on attending all 8 sessions. Preregistration is recommended. The deadline to register is Sept. 12, which is when the class begins. Attendees will meet weekly from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the board room of the Dean Building, 1021 N. Douty St. (white building with green awnings, in between St. Brigid’s Church and Community Care – Hanford). Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP to Rebecca Russell, registered dietitian and certified facilitator for the program, at (559) 537-0083 or email Rebecca.Goodstein@ah.org.
